Prof CS Lau (Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong)Vivian started pioneering molecular medicine research in the Department at a time when many of us were still trying to grasp the concept of this scientific discipline. Her subsequent dedication to developing molecular biological assays to aid the diagnosis and management of various genetically determined disorders have contributed to the improved outcome of patients with these conditions. Like many of her students and colleagues, I am saddened by the loss of Vivian. Vivian will always be remembered and we shall continue her legacy and not cease our efforts to improve the health of the people of Hong Kong and beyond!

I am deeply saddened to learn that Vivian passed away a few days ago. I still remember first meeting her at Bart’s in the early 70s. She was a brilliant scientist and her joining the Department in 1974 marked the beginning of basic research in the Department. Her contribution to research, teaching and genetic service for several decades will never be forgotten.

驚悉陳立怡教授的離世，深感突然，傷感！
陳立怡教授可以說是我從加拿大畢業回香港後職業生涯中的第一個恩師。我跟隨陳教授身邊工作前後近六年（1986-1991 & 1994-1995）。從她身上，不僅學會了近代的核酸分子技術，還學懂了對待工作的嚴謹態度。陳教授做事很嚴謹，對我們技術人員要求也很嚴格。有時科研實驗做得不好，我難免受到責備。但從中也領悟到我對科研實驗應有的態度。這兩種能力，使我在港大以後的職業生涯中終生受用，受益匪淺！我非常感激陳立怡教授對我的正面影響！
陳立怡教授表面嚴肅，其實內心善良！她常常為下屬員工爭取應有的福利，是個關心員工下屬的好上司。她退休後這十年，仍不時和我們這些實驗部老員工茶聚，平易近人。
安息吧，陳立怡教授！永遠的緬懷！

陳立怡教授離世不覺都十多天了，我至今仍然覺得難以接受。
我跟隨陳教授身邊工作前後已經有二十三年（1986-1991 和1994-2012）。陳立怡教授對工作充滿熱誠，永遠幹勁十足，平時行路都急急忙忙。即使在她預產期前兩周，我見她上樓梯時仍是兩級兩級上。正是這種風格，致使她對香港常見遺傳病的產前分子診斷，及對降低香港新生嬰兒患上地中海貧血重症的出生率做出了很大的貢獻。
陳教授外表是一個嚴勵的上司，她對我們技術人員的犯錯也沒少責備。其實她對我們下屬也有溫情的一面。比如我的女兒在出生不久出現腸胃消化不良，她就很熱心為我介紹專科醫生，還不時關心我女兒的病情進展；多次陳教授和我做實驗至晚上十一點多，事後都揸車特登送我返家後才回家。從這些小事都反映出陳教授對我們這些下屬關懷的一面。
安息吧，陳立怡教授！永遠懷念你！
