Dear Colleagues, Students, Alumni and Friends, It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Christina Wang on June 10, 2026. A distinguished alumna of our Faculty (MBBS 1968; MD 1974) and an esteemed Professor in the Department of Medicine, her loss is deeply felt across our Department, Faculty, and the wider medical community as we mourn a truly inspiring leader. With her talent, discipline, and generosity of spirit, Professor Wang built a legacy of achievement and service that spanned decades. After graduating, she joined the Department in 1969 as a Lecturer, beginning a remarkable period of dedicated service during which she rose through the ranks. In 1988, she was appointed Professor and Chief of the Division of Endocrinology—an appointment that reflected not only her scholarly excellence, but also her commitment to nurturing future generations of clinicians and researchers. She later moved to the United States to continue her teaching and research at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), further extending the global reach and recognition of her impactful work. Professor Wang was widely recognized as a world authority in Andrology. Her pioneering research advanced practical and humane solutions in men’s reproductive health, including efforts to develop safe, effective, and reversible hormonal male contraception; improved approaches to male hormone replacement therapy; and innovative androgen replacement strategies for men with hypogonadism. From 1991 to 2002, she served as Chairperson of the World Health Organization Task Force on Methods for the Regulation of Male Fertility. In this leadership role, she directed large-scale international studies, including a landmark trial demonstrating that hormonal interventions could safely and effectively suppress sperm production—work that has had enduring scientific and clinical influence. Beyond her research achievements, Professor Wang was remembered as a mentor, role model, and trusted colleague. She remained deeply connected to the Hong Kong medical community throughout her career, continuing to contribute with compassion and steadfast commitment despite her base in the United States. She also served as Consultant to the Hong Kong Family Planning Association for more than three decades, helping shape programs and guidance that made a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Her distinguished service was further recognized when she delivered the prestigious David Todd Distinguished Lecture at the 24th Hong Kong Medical Forum. As we mourn the passing of Professor Wang, we do so with gratitude for the warmth she brought to her work, and with deep appreciation for the pioneering impact she leaves behind. Please join us in extending our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones.
